Online Shopping

By Hope Conklin

As the use of technology increases, the online shopping trend continues to rise. Everyday, individuals are online shopping. They shop for clothes, household items, groceries, furniture, and even pets (I shop for all of these things myself). Large companies like Amazon have made it easy for online shoppers, like us, to purchase most store bought items imaginable (you can even buy live plants!). Online shopping is an easy way for consumers to buy what they want, sometimes even with one-click, and get it delivered straight to their door. Convenience plays a huge role in the current online shopping trend.

Listed below are pros and cons of online shopping:

Pros:

  • Almost always open
  • No crowds or waiting lines
  • Read reviews, comments, and Q&A before buying
  • Convenient!

Cons:

  • Cannot physically hold, inspect, or try on item or service before purchase
  • Online stores may not always be reliable
  • Returning items may be a hassle
  • Overspending

Online shopping can save time and money, and has many perks, but beware of a company’s return policy before buying. Inexpensive, cheaply made items may be ill-fitting, requiring you to return. However, upon returning you may be paying close to the same amount to return the item as the item cost, so it may not always be worth it.

Completing research on the company you’re buying from, helps you when purchasing and returning. Online shopping is a great benefit to most people that use it because convenience is a major advantage, both for buyers and sellers. The next time, you online shop consider the disadvantages of buying online. Buy what you love and can afford, treat yourself!
